Play by map is the original [[Gamemodes|game mode]] in GeoGuessr. The user can pick [https://www.geoguessr.com/maps| any map] including those created by themselves or by the community.

Each map has 5 rounds in which the user is placed in different locations. The locations may be hand-picked, or can be automatically selected from an area. Depending on the distance of the guess to the target, they can get up to 5000 points per round. A perfect game is a score of 25000.

The player can choose between [[Single Player]] and [[Challenge]] mode. Also, [[Game Settings|game settings]] are available in this mode.
